Poison Ivy
- General information
- Contact dermatitis; mediated by T-cell response so rash is not seen for 24-48 hours after contact.
- Poison ivy is not spread by the fluid in the vesicles; can be spread by clothes and animals that retain the plant resin.
- Assessment findings: very pruritic impetigo-like lesions
- Nursing interventions
- Administer antihistamines and cortisone as ordered.
- Provide client teaching and discharge planning concerning
- Plant identification
- Need to wash with soap and water after contact with plant
- Importance of washing clothes to get the resin out
